This Is Obviously Totally Not What It Looks Like

OTTAWA, Kan. – A freshman Kansas congresswoman said Thursday that her remark about fellow Republicans seeking a "great white hope" was not a reference to someone who could challenge President Barack Obama or his political agenda.

Figure 1: To what, exactly, were you referring?

Yeah...see. That's a reference to boxing. It goes like this: a black boxer won the heavyweight title in the early 20th century; this had some backlash in the (shall we say) less-than-enlightened community at the time.

It was wished that someone, er, white, who could challenge him would be the "Great White Hope."

Pretty fucking cut-and-dried.
